For the fifth successive year Celton Manx is to sponsor Douglas Borough Council’s public fireworks display.
The event will be held on Friday November 6th, starting at 7.30pm when the Mayor of Douglas, Councillor Sara Hackman JP, will lead the judging for the Best Guy competition and award £100, £50 and £25 for first, second and third places respectively.
At 8pm the fireworks display, set to music, will be fired from a barge moored close by the
Regeneration and Community Committee Chairman Councillor John Skinner said: ‘Thanks to generous sponsorship from Celton Manx, the hard work of many Council staff and Manx Radio as our media partner the Douglas fireworks display promises, yet again, to be a hugely popular crowd-pulling event where families can enjoy a spectacular show in a safe and secure environment.’
Celton Manx executive director Bill Mummery said: ‘The Council’s fireworks display not only attracts local families but also many people from around the island. This makes for a great atmosphere and, with the date set for the Friday, Douglas businesses, especially food and drink outlets, stand to benefit so we are pleased to be sponsoring, once again, what has become one of the capital’s largest and most eagerly awaited community events.’
Entries for the Best Guy competition must be submitted between 6.30 and 6.55pm at the staged area in the vicinity of the war memorial where spectators are urged to gather to enjoy the display and music to best advantage and where catering outlets will be located.

Additionally parking will be suspended from 3 until 9pm on Harris Promenade east side where traffic will be restricted to a single lane (southbound) between Broadway and a point opposite the northernmost end of the Marine Gardens from 6 to 8pm.
In the interests of safety spectators are requested not to bring pets or their own fireworks, including sparklers, onto the site.
