Frequently Asked Questions

Are contract spaces available?

Yes. Spaces are available at Shaw's Brow car park and Chester Street Car Park. Contact the Town Hall on 696300 for further information or visit www.douglas.gov.im/contractparking

Can I buy prepayment cards for parking?

Not any more, however you can register your car's registration number and purchase credit for use with that vehicle.  In addition to helping you to manage your parking budget, this option has the added benefit that you will not have to visit a paystation whenever you park.  The fee will automatically be deducted from your account everytime you leave the car park.  Once registered you can top up your account at the paystation.  Please visit the Finance Department in the Town Hall to register.  If you have one of our old prepayment cards the unspent credit can be transferred to a new credit account. Credit works in both Shaw's Brow and the Bottleneck.

I have a prepayment card with credit on it, can I transfer my credit to use with the new ticketless car park system?

Yes, please visit the Finance Department in the Town Hall and the cashiers will be pleased to transfer your unspent credit to a new credit account.

I have a UK registered vehicle.  Will the new system recognise my registration number?

Yes, the system will recognise any number plate as long as it is clean and uses a regulation font and size.

I have a Windows phone, can I download the Glide app to it?

Unfortunately not.  The app is currently only available for Android and IOS devices.

How do I contact the Council if I have a problem in one of the car parks?

In Shaw's Brow or the Bottleneck you can use the intercoms. Alternatively you can call 696300 in any of the car parks.

Can I register more than one vehicle under a contract in Shaw's Brow?

Yes, however each contract is assigned a 'privilege limit' equal to the number of spaces reserved under the contract.  If all reserved spaces are full, any other vehicles registered under the contract will be required to park on the public levels (if spaces are available) and will incur the standard public tariff.  Contract Holders can set up a credit account to pay charges incurred.  If you would like to do so, please contact us.

Are there public toilets available in the car parks?

Yes, all of our car parks have toilets located within them or in close proximity.  In Shaw's Brow they are in the stair and lift lobby on Level 1 opposite the entrance from Barrack Street.  In Drumgold Street they are on level 1 next to the entrance to M&S.  In Chester Street they are at street level opposite the entrance to Little Shoprite.  At the Bottleneck there are toilets in the adjacent building by the kiosk or in the Sea Terminal.

I am registered disabled, I've heard it's possible to receive an extra hour for free.  Is this true?

Yes.  In Drumgold Street and Chester Street by displaying your blue badge our Wardens will allow you an extra hour on top of the time shown on your Pay & Display ticket.  In Shaw's Brow and the Bottleneck you can register at the Town Hall to receive an additional free hour.  Please bring along your blue badge when you register.
