Douglas Borough Council is the lighting authority for the Borough of Douglas and as such is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all highway street lighting within its boundary.
The Council has a statutory duty to ensure that, once installed, street lighting is maintained and operated in a manner that ensures public safety. As the lighting authority, Douglas Borough Council has the power to install and remove street lighting from service.
The Council currently manages and maintains over 4,200 street lights on the adopted road network. The inventory grows each year as new developments are built and the corresponding roads adopted.
