All properties are allocated on a points scheme. Applicants will accrue points while they are on the housing list. Available properties will always be allocated to the applicants with the highest amount of points.

Acceptance criteria for public sector housing
All housing authorities in the Island apply a common approach for acceptance on to housing waiting lists. You should note, in particular, that applicants must be aged 18 or over and have been a resident in the Island for a total of at least 10 years, five of which must have been spent in the area to which they are applying. Therefore Douglas Borough Council applicants must have lived in Douglas for at least five years and in the Isle of Man for at least 10 years prior to completing an application form. In order to apply for acceptance on a housing waiting list, it is necessary to complete an application form and submit it to the housing office. You can download a copy from this page or collect one from the housing office.
Support for housing
Points are available with regard to the adequacy of an applicant's present accommodation.
To demonstrate eligibility for housing support it is necessary to complete a Support for Housing form, a link can be found on the right of this page. It is important to read the guidance notes, also available to download, before submitting the form to the housing office.
