The surprise for Margo and Charles Mairs, who live in Holywood, County Down, had been arranged by their son, Adrian Mairs who said: 'My mum and dad really enjoyed their meeting with the Mayor and Mayoress and appreciated all the thought that had gone into their visit.
'When they visited the Isle of Man for their honeymoon they stayed in the Sefton Hotel for a week and had a room with a sea view. They were delighted to find that it was still open and we all stayed there this time around, in sea view rooms again. On their honeymoon they saw Johnny Dankworth, Cleo Laine and Joe Loss and his orchestra at the Villa Marina, so we had a look around it and visited the Royal Hall. We also took them on the steam train to Port Erin - a trip they last made 60 years ago.'
