The winners of this year’s Douglas Borough Council Best Guy competition have been praised for their imaginative creations by the Mayor of Douglas, Councillor Jonathon Joughin JP.
The competition formed part of the Council’s fireworks event, sponsored by Celton Manx for the ninth successive year and held on Friday November 1.
A reception was hosted by His Worship at the Town Hall on Wednesday November 20 to present prizes and certificates to first place winner Molly Jones, 10; runner-up Robin Cowin, seven; and joint third place winners, sisters Lorelei and Tallulah Wilson, four and six respectively.
His Worship took the opportunity to thank Celton Manx executive director Bill Mummery for his continued sponsorship of the crowd-pleasing event and went on to say: ‘This event always creates a strong sense of community and brings large numbers of people to the town to the benefit of many local businesses. He added: ‘The standard of the display this year was truly exceptional’, and extended his thanks to Tony Palmer of 3FM, the Council’s media partner for the event.
Mr Mummery said: ‘Celton Manx has been pleased to sponsor the Douglas fireworks for the ninth successive year, an event which not only attracted large and very appreciative crowds and widespread positive feedback about the exceptional high quality of the display but also inspired commendable creativity on the part of the Best Guy competition winners.’
Molly Jones said that she would be saving half of her prize money and sharing the rest with her brother; Robin Jones was planning to spend his winnings on Lego, while Lorelei and Tallulah would be adding to their collections of toys.
