The Mayoress of Douglas’s 2018-19 charity appeal has raised £23,000.
For the year-long campaign three charities were selected by the Mayoress, Mrs Angela Joughin and the Mayor, Councillor Jon Joughin: the Rotary Club of Douglas and SSAFA Isle of Man, which received £8,000 each, and Special Olympics Isle of Man, which received £5,000.
At a reception held at Douglas Town Hall to present the cheques to the charities’ representatives the Mayoress spoke of the ‘tremendous support’ she and the Mayor had received from the charity appeal committee, volunteer organisations, individuals and a number of prominent local businesses.
She went on to say that she and the Mayor had been ‘touched and humbled’ by the work and selfless dedication of so many charity volunteers they had met during their year in office that they had been moved to present 10 additional local good causes with £200 each. These were: Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation; Dot’s Dream Foundation; Douglas Lifeboat; Ellan Vannin Home; Friends of Sophia Goulden; Isle of Man Live at Home Scheme; Isle of Man Scouts; Leonard Cheshire; Mannin Sepsis; and the Manx Youth Band.
