Manx Telecom sales and technical consultant Jaico Garcia has been voted Douglas Customer Service Champion 2019.
Mr Garcia came top out of nine nominees in Douglas Town Centre Management’s contest on Facebook to find the person who provides the best customer service in Douglas town centre.
Customers were asked to visit Douglas Town Centre Management’s Facebook page to view the shortlist of nominees then like the photo of the person they believed to be the best customer service professional.
Mr Garcia received the highest number of votes, 722. When asked what good customer service meant to him, he said: ‘Despite working with technology, I’m glad it still hasn’t replaced the ultimate relationship building tool between a customer and a business: the human touch. I always put the customer first so that our relationship lasts.’
Along with the Douglas Customer Service Champion trophy he won £100 which he chose to donate to Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation.
Runner-up was Sarah Vaukins from Boots with 606 votes who selected as her prize £50 of New Look vouchers.
In third place was Chris Teare from Burton with 422 votes who chose £25 of JD Sports vouchers.
Presenting the awards at Douglas Town Hall His Worship the Mayor of Douglas Councillor Jon Joughin JP said that the competition was ‘an excellent opportunity to celebrate the amazing talent among our town centre retailers’.
He continued: ‘The shoppers of Douglas clearly value good customer service judging by the response to the competition. Overall the Facebook post reached 33,000 people.
‘People can, of course, order things online but with that you don’t get human interaction, which I believe is so very important. I am a big believer that by giving someone outstanding customer service not only do you send them away happy, but you also give them a reason to come back.’
Head of consumer sales and sales operations Ross Mayers at Manx Telecom said: ‘I’m delighted that Jaico’s excellent contribution to our retail team has been recognised with this fantastic award. He is clearly committed to putting customers first and striving to meet their expectations – and that commitment is shared by all staff across the business. The tremendous support Jaico has received in this competition shows how customers appreciate his dedication to putting these principles into practice.’
