Maria Costello, the first woman solo racer to have stood on the MGP winners' podium, has been welcomed by Her Worship the Mayor, Councillor Debbie Pitts JP and the mayoress, Mrs Linda Curphey, to the town hall.
Her Worship met Ms Costello, the only female motorcycle racer to have been appointed an MBE, some 20 years ago when she was a rising star in the then Manx Grand Prix. The two women have remained firm friends and Ms Costello has stayed with Her Worship several times.
