Douglas pitches in for twinning event

The Mayor and Mayoress of Douglas, Councillor Debbie Pitts JP and Mrs Linda Curphey represented Douglas and the Isle of Man in Ballymoney for a football match twinning event, sponsored by KRD Credit Union in Ballymoney, Northern Ireland where they were joined by councillors from Vanves, a town on the outskirts of Paris also twinned with the County Antrim town.

The Mayor and Mayoress presented the prizes and also attended a reception at Ballymoney town hall where they met the town's deputy mayor, Councillor James McCorkell and guests from Vanves, including Councillor Catherine Scibilia,

During their stay the civic party visited the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, one of Northern Ireland's best known tourist attractions. Suspended almost 100ft (30m) above sea level, the bridge connects two cliffs off Ballintoy, County Antrim.

The programme also included a visit to the Dark Hedges, a much photographed avenue of beech trees planted in the 18th century, and which has featured as a location in HBO's epic series Game of Thrones.
