The Council Chamber of Douglas Town Hall was the setting for pupils of Henry Bloom Noble School to hold their School Council meeting.
Under the expert eye of His Worship the Mayor, Councillor John Skinner JP, the meeting followed convention, and was presided over by the School Council chair, with members using the microphones and the electronic voting system
The private agenda completed, the final business saw members voting on whether to retire to the Mayor’s parlour for refreshments and biscuits or to return directly to school.
Unsurprisingly, the vote was unanimously in favour of retiring to the parlour.
Reflecting on the meeting His Worship said: ‘One of our aims during our time in office is for the Mayoress and I to engage with the younger members of the community, so we were delighted to be able to place the Council Chamber at the disposal of Henry Bloom Noble’s School Council.
‘The pupils conducted themselves most professionally and showed a good understanding of procedures.
‘It was extremely interesting to observe the meeting and witness what might have marked, for some pupils at least, the start of a career in local government…Who knows?’
