As the 2016 TT festival gets under way, Douglas Borough Council is reminding social housing tenants that under the terms of their tenancy agreement they are required to obtain the Council’s written consent if they wish to provide visitor accommodation under the Homestay scheme.
The requirement also applies to tenants wishing to take in lodgers, the term ‘lodger’ defined by the Council as ‘any person other than a spouse/partner or dependent child/children who take up residency at the address over and above any reasonable temporary visit, for example, over four weeks in duration.’
Housing Committee Chairman Councillor David Ashford said: ‘Tenants of Council-owned properties must notify us in advance of their intention to join the Homestay scheme and, under most circumstances, permission will be granted, subject to the size of the property, the tenant registering with the Homestay operator and remaining in residence for the duration of the Homestay period.
