Her Worship the Mayor of Douglas Councillor Sara Hackman JP had the opportunity to get up ‘close and personal’ to the Davis Cup trophy, after it was displayed at Douglas Lawn Tennis Club on Sunday April 24 as part of the Lawn Tennis Association’s trophy tour of the UK following the British Davis Cup team’s win in November 2015, the first for 79 years.

To mark the event an inaugural Davis Cup-style competition was held at the Kensington Road club, with teams from four island clubs, Albany, Castletown, Douglas and Ramsey, competing for the Champions’ Legacy Cup.

Winners were Castletown Lawn Tennis Club whose team included one of the youngest players on the day, 12-year-old Scott Mason, who received the cup from Her Worship.
