Christmas came to the capital after Her Worship the Mayor, Councillor Sara Hackman JP, switched on the Christmas lights on Thursday November 26, fireworks lit up the night sky and the festive season began in earnest.
The switch-on was preceded by carols, pantomime and song, together with an offering of prayers at Christmas by the Mayor's chaplain, the Archdeacon of Man, the Ven Andrew Brown.
The event also marks the beginning of late-night shopping on Thursday in the run-up to Christmas.
There is now free parking in Douglas Borough Council’s Shaw’s Brow, Chester Street and Bottleneck car parks from 5 to 10pm on pre-Christmas Thursdays and all day Saturday and Sunday until December 24.
The Department of Infrastructure is operating Pay and Display public car parking on the Douglas promenade walkway until the end of December. Parking will be free, however, on Thursday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays over the same period.
