Douglas Borough Council Remembrance Sunday service

Friday, 23 October 2015 17:41

The 2015 Douglas Borough Council Remembrance Sunday service will be held on Sunday November 8th.

A parade will form at Market Hill at 9.15am and move off at 9.30am from Market Hill through Duke Street, Strand Street, Castle Street, Marina Road, St Thomas’ Walk, Market Street and Church Road Marina to St Thomas’ Church where, on arrival, the parade will file through the Finch Road entrance.

The church service will commence at 10.00am and be co-ordinated by the Archdeacon of the Isle of Man, the Venerable Andrew Brown, with the Vicar of St Thomas’, the Rev Ian Brady, offering prayers.

The service will end at 10.40am to allow time for those present to parade to the War Memorial to observe the two minutes’ silence at 11am, which will be followed by the laying of wreaths.

The final parade will then form on the Promenade roadway alongside the War Memorial and, after the salute is taken opposite the Gaiety Theatre by Her Worship the Mayor, Councillor Mrs Sara Hackman JP, the parade will proceed into Marina Road and retrace the route to Market Hill.

In the event of adverse weather any or all of the parades may be abandoned. The observance of the two minutes’ silence at the War Memorial will, however, proceed.

Members of local organisations, both military and civil, and the general public are invited to participate in any part, or all, of the event.

Between 9am and 12noon parking will be suspended on Harris Promenade and Douglas promenade will be closed between Broadway and the northern end of the Marine Gardens.

Additionally, limited road closures will operate at varying times between 9.30 am and 12noon, affecting the lower end of Finch Road, Church Road Marina, Market Street and Harris Promenade. (Details available on request).
