The evening occasion provided an opportunity for some 30 newly recruited reservists to take part in their first parade and flag-raising ceremony, also to meet former army personnel.

Also in attendance was Juan Watterson MHK, in his capacity as Isle of Man Government Armed Forces Champion who addressed the reservists, saying: ‘This is the first attestation of troops on the Island since the Manx Regiment was wound up in 1968, but you are the latest in a long line of Manxmen proud to be involved in the British Armed Forces, from Ensign Bacon at Waterloo, Quilliam at Trafalgar, Major Cain VC at Arnhem, Hector Duff MM in Normandy and the men of the 15th Isle of Man Light Anti-Aircraft regiment in North Africa, Italy and Europe to FlightLieutenant Keith Collister in the first Gulf war , and many others in Iraq and Afghanistan.  It is a proud legacy, and as you are the next generation of Manxmen in the Armed Forces, I know you will honour that legacy and do them proud.’
