RNLI Lifeboat launching in Douglas RNLI Lifeboat launching in Douglas

Founded in the Island by Sir William Hillary, the RNLI is charity and rescue service in operation throughout the British Isles.

 

The first lifeboat was built and stationed in Douglas after the foundation of the RNLI, originally titled the ‘National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck’ in 1824.

 

The present-day Douglas lifeboat is based at Douglas Lifeboat Station, Battery Pier, Douglas, IM1 5BT and operated by a voluntary crew.
