The charity was founded by David Cretney MHK and Peter Kneale following Dunlop’s death in July 2000,
A passionate philanthropist who had received an OBE for his charity work, Dunlop had intended to start such a charity but sadly was killed before he had the chance. However the foundation was set up in his name, based in the island, and has raised substantial funds and received many generous donations to support its cause.
In June 2009 the charity purchased Braddan Bridge House, a property on the TT course with excellent vantage points of the races, formally opened during TT 2010.
The first guest was able to stay in comfort during the 2010 Manx Grand Prix, thanks to the Manx Lottery Trust which granted more than £44,000 to cover specialist equipment costs such as hoists and adapted facilities.
