Douglas Borough Council will join with communities across the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, the Commonwealth and UK Overseas Territories to light a beacon on Monday June 4th to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Douglas Borough Council is teaming up with the UK chewing gum action group and launching a high-profile anti-chewing gum litter campaign.

Performers - from jugglers to magicians, bands to poets - are wanted to help add to the carnival atmosphere in Douglas town centre during this year’s TT festival.

Local author Rakie Keig has given a talk about her latest novel Home Ground at the Henry Bloom Noble Library.

One of the rarest of astronomical phenomena, a transit of Venus, is to be the subject of a talk by the Isle of Man Astronomical Society’s Howard Parkin at the Henry Bloom Noble Library.

Councillor David John Ashford has been elected Mayor of Douglas for the 2012-2013 municipal year.

The 2012 Douglas horse tram service will begin on Monday 14 and operate daily from 9am to 6pm until Sunday September 16.

At a meeting of the Council of the Borough of Douglas, held on Wednesday 2nd May, 2012, it was agreed unanimously that the selection of Mr. Councillor D.J. Ashford to serve as Mayor of the Borough for the year commencing 9th May 2012, as originally approved at a private meeting on Friday 30th March, be confirmed subject to election at the Annual Council meeting on 9th May.
