New charges to be introduced at Eastern District civic amenity site

Saturday, 29 March 2014 12:37

With effect from Tuesday April 1st 2014 a charge will be made for the disposal of PC monitors and TV sets at the Eastern District civic amenity site, the joint committee operating the facility has confirmed.

To dispose of a TV set the charge will be £8 and £6.50 for a PC monitor, inclusive of VAT.

Chairman of the Eastern District civic amenity site joint committee Councillor Bill Malarkey said: ‘Central government’s moves to devolve more services to local government, balance its budgets and achieve savings have a direct impact on local authorities’ finances, which are already under pressure.

‘It was against this sombre background that the committee resolved, reluctantly, to introduce the charges after the government announced its decision to withdraw the subsidy it was providing for the service. We are, of course, not alone in this. All other civic amenity site operators in the Island are faced with the same challenge, so are also having to bring in their own charging levels.’

TVsetsOn-site payment must be by debit card only. Cash will not be accepted. Alternatively customers may pay in advance at the Borough Treasurer’s counter where they will be issued with a receipt which must be produced at the site before the disposal service can be provided.
