Horse tram driver retires after 33 years

Douglas horse tram driver Robert Maddrell has retired after 33 years with the tramways service.

 

To mark the occasion Her Worship the Mayor, Councillor Carol Malarkey JP, accompanied by the Mayoress Councillor Sara Hackman, hosted a reception for Mr Maddrell and a number of his colleagues.

On behalf of Douglas Borough Council Her Worship congratulated Mr Maddrell for his loyal service and for being part of a dedicated team working to promote the Island’s world famous vintage transport system which contributed to attracting visitors to the Isle of Man.

 

Her Worship also took the opportunity to present Mr Maddrell with two framed photographs of him in action as a tram driver, together with a tramways photo album.
