MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Council is looking for a highly motivated Legal Officer to join us to work on a variety of projects and areas of legal work. This is a new and stimulating position and an amazing opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Advocate to join Douglas Borough Council in a fast paced role in which you will be able to strengthen and develop your existing skills.

The range of legal work we can offer is exciting, from supporting housing, planning and service contracts with the provision of comprehensive legal advice and guidance to taking the lead on litigation matters. This position also offers an amazing career opportunity with a diverse, challenging legal workload plus advising in a political environment working collaboratively with Members and Senior Officers, and very closely with the Chief Executive, Corporate Management Team and outside advocates.

You must be a qualified and experienced Advocate with at least 3 years’ post qualification experience. You must have excellent communication and organisational as well as good research and analytical skills.  Knowledge of local government would be an advantage but is not absolutely necessary. Flexibility and a positive approach are essential.

For the right person, this is a role that could offer responsibility, whilst the Council provides you with encouragement and development to ensure we continue to deliver outstanding service levels.

If you are ambitious, dedicated and efficient in delivering excellent service and can embrace the challenges and opportunities presented then we would like to hear from you. In return, we can offer you a tremendous opportunity in local government and an interesting but demanding role in a friendly and supportive environment.

Application packs for the above vacancy can be obtained from the HR Department on 01624 696455, downloaded via the links on the right or collected from the Henry Bloom Noble Library.

Applications must be submitted no later than 17:00 on the closing date specified below.
